EVENTS FROM THE 2012-2013 YEAR:
May 11th - Big Brother Big Sister Day from 3 - 7 P.M. We had just over 50 students show up to play dodgeball, a
scavenger hunt, tag games, computer games, and have pizza and kool-aid.
May 10th - Elementary Science Fair from 2 - 7 P.M. We had 39 participants from grades K-5, and we
hope to pass out awards very soon to each one of them.
April 15 - 20 we held our annual Leadership Week, which will included elections, a new type of student awards, teachers vs. students basketball game, clean-up day, and our lock-in. We also finished our What Would You Bring to the Table
event. For this we ended up gathering over 500 boxes of cereal with the help from the Elementary students. All of this cereal went to our town's food pantry.
April 5th we hosted the 2nd Grade Reading and Science night. More than 60 2nd graders participated!
With more than 20 members working alongside the teachers present, we put on a great show for the kids and hope to continue this event if needed.
Big Brother Big Sister Day in March hosted more than 70 students once again. The participants were treated to an Easter Egg Scavenger hunt, numerous games, pizza, and the chance to watch either Wreck-It Ralph or Rise of the Guardians.
Penny Wars concluded this year with a total amount of just over $1800. The winning advisory this year was Mr.
McLindon, who finally reclaimed the title from Mrs. Stephens.
Winterfest, Feb. 9th. 30 workers helped the town's HRC put on the Winterfest at the school. Activities ranged from a giant bouncy house, train rides, various games, dancing on the Kinect, movies, ETC. Overall the event seemed to be a big success with many more people from the town coming out than even last year.
Boy Scout Night, Jan. 24th. Four students, Austin, Dana, Evie and Lexie helped organize and run four
different stations for 10 boy scouts to help them work on earning their Science Nova patch. The students spent 2 hours viewing a planetarium, playing in a video-game contest, experimenting with rockets, and learning how to measure volume.
Taylor and Joe won a $250 grant for NJHS to do a hunger project in April. Congratulations!
Cayla won a $250 grant for our advisory program! Congrats Cocoa!
Angel tree shopping on December 15th. We purchased $4500 worth of Christmas presents for 32 children. Slideshow is available now at the link above and also at the link above that says "Activities". Many other members came in at 2:30 P.M.
to help wrap the presents which were immediately picked up by the Lions Club and delivered to the families. We then delivered 100 flowers to 100 homes with holiday greetings on them and an encouraging word to "pay it forward". Last, we had our annual end-of-the-year party with pizza and games.
Induction ceremony on December 7th. We inducted 31 new members.
Big Brother Big Sister Day on November 17th. There were over 30 NJHS and other there to work the event which had just over 70 students attend from the Elementary. Highlights of the event were movies (Brave and Madagascar 3), a turkey feather scavenger hunt, and even the chance to play outside since the weather was so nice.
Haunted House was held on October 25th and 26th. Raised over $4500 that will help many children in our community at Christmas time.
Fourth hour leadership class won a $250 grant to help with advertising for the Haunted House
