2014-2015 Meetings and Minutes
Sept. 3rd - Meeting got reschedule to Sept. 9th. We discussed summer events we helped with, such as the Ronald McDonald House at Indianapolis and the Town's 4th of July parade. After a quick review of obligations as members of NJHS, we spent the rest of the time discussing the haunted house for this year.
Oct. 1st - Discussed upcoming arts and crafts fair, and the need for helpers. Spent most of the time discussing haunted house plans though.
November 5th - Discussed the results from the Haunted House. We raised $4,808 and had over 1,200 people attend. Winning rooms (in a tie...first tie that has ever happened) were the Black Ops room and the Playground. Most of the meeting revolved around making lists of people we need to thank, but also discussed the upcoming Big Brother Big Sister day on November 22 from 3 - 7 P.M.
December 5th - Discussed how the big brother big sister event went and talked about how to advertise better for the next one as well as make the permission slip more clear for what to wear. Talked about the upcoming Angel Tree shopping as well as Make-A-Difference Day which includes the gift-wrapping, decorating the elementary and our pizza party afterwards. We also have members helping with Santa at the Community Center, and our upcoming events include the 2nd grade Science Night and Boy Scout night in January.
January 14th - Discussed Angel tree shopping, wrapping presents, decorating the elementary hallway, and having members be Santa's elves. New business focused on the 2nd grade science night, the application process for new members, Boy Scout night, Winterfest, and the science fair. We had potential new members present to discuss the application form itself and how to go about applying.
Feb. 11th - Showed pictures from Winterfest. New business was to discuss Inductions on the 20th of this month.
March 3rd - Discussed Inductions...inducted 25 new members. Overall, it went very smoothly. Not a lot going on at this meeting as we held a meeting prior to Inductions and covered a few things. We also talked about Penny Wars and our upcoming Big Brother Big Sister event on the 10th. For our Penny Wars, we did our kickoff on the 2nd. It is now over actually, and we did a little under last year, but still a good amount to donate...$1300. We definitely need to get more excitement into the Penny Wars. Everyone waits until the last day anymore so this really limits the amount we generate. We need to get people bringing in money more often rather than just the last day.
April 6th - Reviewed obligations quickly for new members. We shared how Boy Scout Night went. 8 scouts, 2 guest speakers (engineers) and did lots of neat activities. Talked some about our last Big Brother Big Sister event and how we have just one more coming up in May. Discussed Penny Wars and the need to change it up to revitalize it...we have raised significantly less the last few years and need to pick it up. We still raised a good amount, $1400, but we used to do much better. Last, we talked about Leadership Week and all the plans for it, as well as how to run for office as they takes place then as well.
May meeting - Reviewed summer expectations (only 6 hours maximum may be earned). Collected final dues and hours from all members and notified most at this point if they were short on hours or not (for those that had turned them in early). Talked about our last big brother big sister event, our summer events (the float, helping at the 5K) and the Ronald McDonald House (only for officers). The last thing we did was introduce our new officers for the upcoming school year.
