DEMERIT POLICY AND A QUICK SUMMARY OF WHAT THE OBLIGATIONS TO BE A MEMBER OF OUR NJHS.
Obligations as a member of NJHS
· Maintain a 3.25 G.P.A.
· Fulfill a set number of service hours throughout the school year. For returning
members, that is 20 hours, 10 by the end of the first semester. You may earn all your hours in
the first semester. Hours do NOT carry over to the next school year. ONLY 4 hours may count
for any one specific activity (i.e., babysitting only earns 4 hours maximum, church-related
activities may only earn you up to 4 hours). If hours are not turned in by the due date, you be issued a demerit. After the sponsor communicates with you an extended deadline, failure to
turn any hours in at this point will result in removal from the chapter.
· Participate in at least one service project. Service projects are anything we do in which we do
not raise money for ourselves, but work to help someone or some group. The hours you spend
at a service project do count towards your service hours for the year.
· Keep a clean record of referrals, etc.
· Attend monthly meetings, and any meetings set by committees you volunteer to be a part of.
· Continued demonstration of the qualities that helped you become a member (good character,
leadership, and service).
